By entering this draw, you signify your acceptance of and agreement to abide by the rules and regulations set out here by Lakehead University ("Contest Rules").
General Description of the Lakehead University "I will think for myself" Contest (the "Contest"):
The Contest provides participants with the chance to win one of several prizes more specifically set out in these Contest Rules. The Contest commences at 12:00:01 a.m. EDST on September 25, 2009 and concludes at 11:59:59 p.m. EDT on January 13, 2010 ("Contest Period"). Participants may enter the Contest at any time during the Contest Period. Prizes are one (1) grand prize and two (2) second prizes. Prize winners will be picked on or before May 28, 2010 from all entries received during the Contest Period by Lakehead University ("Lakehead") in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
FULL CONTEST RULES
1) Eligibility:
The Contest is open to individuals who are Canadian Citizens and residents of Canada who have not previously commenced full-time attendance at Lakehead University, except (i) the employees, officers, directors, representatives, and agents of Lakehead University, its respective advertising and promotion agencies and their family members, or any of the respective affiliates, related entities, successors or assigns or (ii) persons domiciled with or who are immediate family of any of the above (as determined by Lakehead in its sole discretion).
You may not enter as a group, organization or school, and you may not enter more than once unless specifically allowed by these rules. If it is discovered that an individual entered more than once in contravention of these Contest Rules, all entries may be void in the discretion of Lakehead University.
For the purposes of these rules the term "individual" does not include a corporation, partnership, non-profit group, or trust.
2) How to Participate:
By entering and participating in the Contest or accessing the www.iwillthinkformyself.com website or any other contest-related website such as mylakeheadu.ca (collectively referred to as the "Website"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted these Contest Rules.
No Purchase Necessary: No purchase is necessary to enter this Contest.
During the Contest Period, go online to www.iwillthinkformyself.com, and you will be prompted to enter some information about yourself and answer a short survey. Once you have entered the required information, you may submit your answers.
Alternatively, you may enter using dedicated computer terminals which will be set up at the Ontario Universities' Fair at the Lakehead University booth at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre at 222 Bremner Blvd., Toronto, Ontario from September 25 to 27, 2009.
4) Notification of Winners & How to Redeem:
If you are a potential winner you will be notified by email or telephone, according to the contact information you provided upon registration. To receive a prize, you must correctly answer a mathematical skill testing question, without assistance or mechanical aid, and you must comply with these Contest Rules. You will be advised of the procedure that you must follow, and any additional requirements, to claim your prize. You will be required to sign and return a Declaration & Release Form, confirming your compliance with these Contest Rules and releasing Lakehead University, its and their respective advertising and promotional agencies, or any of their respective affiliates, related entities, employees, officers, directors, representatives, agents, successors or assigns, (collectively the "Group") from all liability associated with the Contest or the prize. The Email notification is not final confirmation that you have won the prize. Lakehead University may declare the redemption for a particular item invalid if, in the sole opinion of Lakehead University, these Contest Rules have been breached in any way.
With the exception of collecting information during the "contest" period for purposes of managing the draw, no correspondence for the purpose of the Contest will be entered into except with potential winner(s).
The prizes must be redeemed on or before the time limits set out in the Prize Descriptions below.
If you are a minor in your jurisdiction of residence at the time of registration you need parental consent to claim a prize. The 'Prize Claim Release Form' relating to the prize must be executed by your parent or legal guardian, and the prize will be awarded to your parent/legal guardian.
NOTE: When returning the required documentation to Lakehead University, it is strongly recommended that you send the documents using insured Registered Mail with a receipt of mailing. Prior to mailing please photocopy all materials you are submitting.
Once your completed form has been received and verified, and all other conditions have been fulfilled, Lakehead University will make arrangements for you to receive your prize.
5) Prize Descriptions, Odds of Winning and Prize Values:
Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received. For all prizes, all costs and expenses not specifically listed and paid for as part of the prize (including without limitation: Lakehead University tuition, meals, books, student fees, personal expenses, living expenses, and taxes) are the prize winner's responsibility.
One (1) grand prize and three (3) unique prizes are available to be won.
Winning a prize does not in any way guarantee acceptance for enrolment at Lakehead University, and the Individual Grand Prize Winner is responsible for applying to and registering at Lakehead University to qualify to win and prior to receipt of the prize, subject to all University eligibility requirements unrelated to this Contest.
Grand Prize Name: Apple MacBook ®
Prize Details: Contest Grand Prize (1 to be awarded overall): Consists of up to one (1) Apple MacBook® during the Prize Redemption Period. The Prize Redemption Period will commence on the later of the day the prize winner either enrols or first commences attendance at Lakehead University on a full-time basis, and shall end on the last date of the academic term in which the student first enrolled or commenced attendance, as the case may be. Prize is non-transferable. For greater certainty, the prize winner is not guaranteed entrance to Lakehead University by virtue of the awarding of this prize. In fact, in order to be eligible for this prize, the prize winner must have applied to and been admitted and registered into one of Lakehead University's academic undergraduate programs, and fulfill all other requirements for entrance and enrollment in the University. Use of the prize and the prize itself is subject to any and all terms and conditions normally imposed by Lakehead University. In addition, the Grand Prize winner will receive a T-Shirt (size at the discretion of Lakehead University). No substitutions. Prize has no redeemable cash value. The prize will be awareded during the New Student Orientation activities taking place at the start of the fall 2010 Academic Year.

Second Prize Name: Livescribe Pulse Pen Kit
Prize Details: Contest Second Prize (2 to be awarded overall): Consists of one (1) Livescribe Pulse Pen Kits. Each kit includes; one (1) Livescribe 2GB Pulse Smartpen, Livescribe Single Subject Notebooks (1-4), Livescribe Single Subject Notebooks (5-8), and Livescribe Ink Cartridges (Blue + Red). No substitutions. Prize has no redeemable cash value. The Prize must be redeemed no later than April 30, 2011.

Third Prize Name: Explore the Outdoors Adventure Pack
Prize Details: Contest Third Prize (1 to be awarded overall): Consists of up to one (1) Explore the Outdoors Adventure Pack. 6) Prize Restrictions and Conditions:
All Prize Claim Forms and Declaration & Release Forms must be received by Lakehead University within thirty (30) days of prize notification or prize will be forfeited. In this event, Lakehead University reserves the right in its sole discretion and in any manner whatsoever to award the forfeited prize to another Contest participant, or to not award the forfeited prize to anyone.
7) Contact Information:
The contact information, which you enter upon registration, is the information Lakehead University will use to notify you of any prize you have won and in relation to the delivery of any documentation. If any of your contact information or if your email address changes, it is your responsibility to notify us of your new information by contacting the Lakehead University Office of Communications at (807) 343-8177.
8) General Rules Governing Participants and Winners (More Legal Stuff):
Individuals may only register and participate in the Contest once using one valid Email address. Those participants who are found to have multiple Contest entries (unless specifically authorized by these Contest Rules) may be disqualified and no longer able to participate in the Contest, at Lakehead University's sole discretion.
Lakehead University reserves the right in its sole discretion to reject any Contest entries that are incomplete, incorrect (errors in email addresses or telephone numbers, for example), obscene or offensive, or contain obscene or offensive material, or that violate Lakehead University's Code of Student Conduct.
The decisions of Lakehead University on all matters relating to the Contest will be final and binding on all participants.
For the purposes of this Article 8, the term "Lakehead Group" includes Lakehead University and its agents, employees, directors, officers, and volunteers.
The Lakehead Group assumes no responsibility for: lost, stolen, delayed, damaged or misdirected Contest entries registrations, or correspondence; any failure or slow down of the Website during the Contest Period or any failure or slow down of Contest programs, or software supporting, connected to or related to the Contest; any problems or technical malfunction or speed or quality of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, or software howsoever caused; failure of any email or transmission to be received by Lakehead University on account of technical problems, spam filters, or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website; any injury or damage to a Contest participant or any other person or their computer or other property, related to or resulting from participating in the Contest or downloading any material related thereto; or any combination thereof. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt by Lakehead University.
The Lakehead Group is not responsible for any on-line or other charges you may incur in connection with participating in the Contest. The Lakehead Group is not responsible for the availability or content of any other website to which the Website is linked.
All content on the Website is the property of Lakehead University or suppliers of the items offered in the Contest. Lakehead University grants a limited license to each user of the Website to make personal use only of the Website itself. Any other use, including the reproduction, modification, distribution, transmission or display of the content on the Website is strictly prohibited.
You are prohibited from using any method, mechanism, device or software to affect the proper functioning of the Website and, should any attempt to do so be made, Lakehead University reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law. Lakehead University may, in its sole discretion and without notice, terminate the right of any participant in the Contest or user of the Website to participate in the Contest or to use the Website. Lakehead University reserves the right, in its sole discretion (subject to any required governmental approvals) and without notice, to modify, cancel, suspend and/or terminate this Contest for any reason whatsoever, in its sole discretion, including without limitation in the event a virus, bug or other cause beyond the reasonable control of Lakehead University corrupts the security or proper administration of the Contest. In the event of Contest cancellation, any Contest entries will be deemed expired and void and will be ineligible, and the Lakehead Group shall not have any further liability with respect thereto.
Lakehead University reserves the right, in its sole discretion (subject to any required governmental approvals) and without notice, to modify, cancel, suspend and/or terminate access to the Website for any reason whatsoever, in its sole discretion, including without limitation to prevent corruption of the security or proper administration of the Contest. In the event of Contest participant's termination, any Contest entries from that participant will be deemed expired and void and will be ineligible, and the Lakehead Group shall not have any further liability with respect thereto.
All entries are final. Any goods and services offered through the Website and any prizes are provided on an "as is" basis and are subject to availability. Lakehead University makes no representations or warranties and, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, there are no warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied, statutory or otherwise, with respect to the Website, or any goods and services offered through the Contest, the Prizes, or any transactions conducted through the Contest or the Website, including without limitation:
1. implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement;
2. any implied warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade;
3. any obligation, liability, right, claim or remedy in tort, whether or not arising from the negligence of the Lakehead Group; and
4. that the Website will meet your requirements, always be available, accessible, accurate or secure.
The Lakehead Group will not be liable for any damages of any kind including without limitation direct, indirect, incidental, punitive and consequential damages arising out of or in connection with participation in the Contest or use of the Website or any goods or services obtained through the Contest or Website.
This Contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal Laws. Void where prohibited.
Subject to the jurisdiction in Quebec of the Regie des alcools, des courses et des jeux, the right is reserved to withdraw, amend, or terminate this Contest at any time.
For Quebec residents, any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of this publicity contest or the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Regie des alcools, des course et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Regie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
9) Privacy Policy:
By entering the Contest, you agree that Lakehead University may use your entry materials, name, address, comments and likeness, in any matters related to the Contest, including any advertising or publicity, without compensation or further consent.
Lakehead University is committed to protecting your privacy. Any personal information collected from you in the course of the Contest will be subject to Lakehead University's Privacy Policy. Personal information (other than your name, likeness, and comments) will be used only by the Lakehead Group and, except as set out in these Contest Rules, will be disclosed only for the purpose of administering the Contest in accordance with these Contest Rules or where required or permitted by law. Lakehead University may disclose personal information to any member of the Lakehead Group for the purpose of administering the Contest in accordance with these Contest Rules and/or for the purpose of awarding and providing the prizes.
During the Contest entry process, certain personal information (such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, and in certain cases age) will be collected, and you may also be asked to answer a short survey. This information is collected and used by Lakehead University for the purposes of managing the Contest, validating entries, evaluating the success of the Contest, and assisting in planning for future contests. In addition, such information may be used by Lakehead University to evaluate the demographics and other general characteristics of prospective applicants to its programs. Finally, Contest entrants will be automatically added to Lakehead University's Admissions and Recruitment email list for prospective students, for the purposes of allowing Lakehead University to provide further information regarding the University. Contest entrants have the option of opting out of this email list once they receive their first email.
